May we just say that we absolutely LOVE this time of year?! Another amazing academic year has come and gone, and with it, eight more Blavin Scholars have graduated – bringing our total number of graduates to 36. We are over the moon.
Do you remember what it was like to consider college when you were a high school student? Like many teens on the brink of adulthood, you probably found the prospect of college a bit scary and daunting even with the financial and emotional support of family, friends and mentors. Now, imagine for a moment how overwhelming the college process would be for a young person just aging out of foster care? A youth who is about to have no home, likely has no mentors, no family support, no funds and little to no belief in him or herself. Can you imagine it?
Well, neither could we. That’s why we created the Blavin Scholars Program – to help those aging out of foster care navigate the complexities and unique challenges of getting into, and making their way through, four years of college. This year, we are all aglow as we congratulate this year’s Blavin Scholar Graduates. This diverse group of hard-working men and women all spent time in the foster care system, but went on to beat the odds and earn a college degree. They are inspirational, they are sensational, they are… the 2017 Blavin Scholar Graduates. Please join us in sending them a huge congratulations for a job very, very well done.
